The Importance of Photography

When I thought it didn’t matter.file0001836221290

Let me tell you, I never thought I would care about taking photo’s that matter. In fact, I have been dodging the camera’s for years. They make me talk like Yoda: chubby they make me feel.

I don’t have kids, so the majority of pics I take are of my dogs, cat, and husband. And lately earrings. And that is when it hit me. I take terrible pictures! I cut peoples heads off, I don’t use proper lighting, I am behind the curve when it comes to photography.

Remember my first post with a pic of my earrings on it?

Yeah, me too. They were terrible. It was like giving my hypothetical daughter bangs before her class pictures.

And there is no way I can sell a pair of earrings if I don’t make them look the best they deserve to be. Just like a family picture, if someone’s eyes are closed then take another one!

We are living in the age of pictures.

In a time with camera’s attached to every piece of technology out there, there is no reason not to have a small background in photography. It is so accessible via phone, internet, photoshop, social media, disposable camera, and all those mental clicks we take with our brain through out the day.

So it is time to embrace it.

For my earrings, I have started to practice by taking tons of pictures of them, and I have created a shadow box. Boy, let me tell you, there is some major improvement.

Let me show you:

WITH SHADOW BOX

Now isn’t that better?

But I’m still an amateur.

This does not make me an expert by any means, but it does give me more of an edge and something to work with. This site is all about improvement. Just like Dancing With The Stars. I will come back week after week and I will get better because I will continually practice.

Now, as I have said before, this blog isn’t going to be a bunch of “how to’s”. Yeah, there will be some of that and I will mainly be focusing the technicalities I learn into a free e-book I plan to offer by Christmas.

So, instead of a big ol’ tutorial, just click here and see where I learned to make a shadow box.

Now mine is much grittier than one done in the link. And I’m a cheap bitch, so instead of buying lamps and bulbs, I go outside when the natural day light is at it’s best and take all my pictures for the week. I also don’t know how to use photoshop, but my phone has some pretty sweet editing options that allow me to get a similar effect.

Now if my goal was to sell my photographs, I would learn all this stuff. But since my goal is to craft some awesome earrings and write about it, I just need to do the basics for now.
