The Fairy Tale Junkie Collection – Mermaids

I LOVE Fairy Tales.file000675084529

There is no better time to post a collection based (obsessively) on Fairy Tales. The Once Upon a Time new season has begun, there is a crispness in the air like an evil queen is near, and all the gnomes and woodland creatures are scattering around getting their winter homes ready. I don’t know if it’s the Oktoberfest talking, but there is just something magical about this time of year.

And that is why there is no better time to introduce to you: The Fairy Tale Junkie Collection!

It will be based on my favorite fairy tale line up. The usual suspects, if you will.

Mermaids.

I will never forget my ninth birthday party. The year was 1989 and my neighborhood friends and I all went to see Disney’s, The Little Mermaid. Then we ate a mermaid cake on mermaid plates and wiped our sugary lips with mermaid napkins. One word description: Awesome.

The mermaids in Peter Pan were a favorite of mine, even though they were quite mean to Wendy. But it was the 1984 movie, Splash, that made me a believer and started the obsession — mermaids were real, and I could become one.

Hans Christian Anderson wrote The Little Mermaid in 1836 and did not give mermaids immortal souls, which could explain why they have the MO of being uncaring B’s. Not all of them, I mean, the little mermaid’s sisters did give up their hair for her. You know how all those old fairy tales end unhappily. An immortal soul is what his little mermaid was in search of because she did not want to die and turn into green sea foam. Totally understandable.

Here is the first pair of earrings in the series. I feel in order to catch a mermaid, you need a hook covered with sparkling bobbles. I believe they must eat shiny objects in order to keep their fins beautiful, and they also like to decorate the clam shells they sleep in and the shells they wear like bikini tops.

That is why if you are ever find yourself fishing for mermaids, you would want to use a hook like these.

Or, if you are just in a don’t-mess-with-me mood, these are great, because mermaids will just flip water in your eye when they don’t want to be bothered. Nothing personal. I have days at work like this when I have so much to do — I’m not trying to be mean — I just need you to leave me the alone so I can get my stuff done.

These earrings are fun and colorful, but also no nonsense. They are the colors of the sea foam mermaids turn into when they exit this world. They’re full of adventure and symbolize confidence. They will help strengthen your backbone. Give them to a friend who needs a boost, or wear them when you are feeling blah. Or if your already feeling strong, they can lift you to new heights.

Good luck catching your inner mermaid!
